Word of a fringe rebellion has been spreading, but getting recruits to sign up is proving to be a challenge. The Collective Unified Forces has put the colonies in a chokehold, restricting all actions and resources. Cut off from their supplies and potential recruits, Captain Aramis Reyne and his two fellow captains devise a reckless plan for getting the resources they need and building a torrent army. With enemies coming at them from every angle, they soon realize that no one, not even the fringe, wants them to succeed.

Fringe Station Fringe Series Book 2 (Audible Audio Edition) Rachel Aukes James Foster Books

Fringe Station is a good read and continues the story of the new torrent rebellion against the Collective. For those that may yet to begin this series, I do recomment you begin with Book One: Fringe Runner in order to understand the over-arching story-line and main players in the story. In Fringe Station, Captains Reyne, Stritch and Heid set out to recruit members in order to fight against the Collective. But they find their task more difficult than they expect as the Collective puts the squeeze on the Fringe worlds. Their recruitment drive seems destined to fail until they find support from an unexpected source and a daring plan to break into the Citadel (a Collective prison for political prisoners and former torrent members that fought in the first torrent rebellion against the Collective), is hatched. Fringe Station has a good amount of action, I liked the characters and Rachel Aukes has developed an interesting future where people are divided into what can only be called a caste-system - unless you are born as a citizen, you are basically seen as a second class citizen or worse if you are indentured. I also liked the fact that Rachel has included a glossory and some information about the Collective in order for readers to reference and become immersed in the Fringe universe. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series :)

Fringe Station Fringe Series Book 2 (Audible Audio Edition) Rachel Aukes James Foster Books Reviews

The only problem I had with this book was that it was too short. But that means that no time was wasted with superfluous narrative, descriptions, etc. The character development was good, the story was entertaining, and the military action was nicely interspersed within the entire book. I can't wait for the 3rd book to come out. I hope the series continues for a long time at this level of writing.
I finished this in two sessions in between Christmas Day activities and family activities! I read the in a dark bedroom after everyone else was asleep. I could not resist. The storyline is great and the action a fun read. I immediately went online to buy the next one, then found out that it's not out yet -- this one is October 2016. <sigh> <drumming fingers while waiting>. D
Wonderful read. A fast paced Space opera that drags you into the action. There's definitely action aplenty. The characters are nicely developed full of surprises. A secret group was established, supposedly, for the good of the 'fringe planets' that supply much of what is needed for everyone. However greed for power has popped up in this group and there lies the problem. It is written so that you can put yourself right in the middle of all the action. Fallen heroes are called on and respond to help lead the good fight. You can't miss with this one.
I liked this one much better than the first in the series; the characters got additional development to make them more interesting (the pilot still needs more, a bit too "great pilot in a wheel chair" and not much depth), good twist on the traitor aspect, and interesting near personalities in station masters and Founders. Overall still a bit short for a book, but a very engaging read that leaves you wanting to know what happens next.
All these books by Rachel Aukes and others I have read lately are the very best. They keep my attention and never want to put the book down. Hollywood is letting these authors down by not making a TV series or movie of these books. The last great series on TV was Stargate SG1 and Stargate Atlantis. These books would make great series for TV instead of watching reruns over and over and over. I give Fringe Station and her others in the series a FIVE STAR rating. Great writing!
This is a rather short edition, and I had trouble remembering the players because of the length of time between reading the first of this series. Anyway we get into a little scuffle here, another scuffle there, a bunch of people suddenly change sides, and a citadel is taken. Bad guys are upset so we declare war. I guess this makes sense sorta. Anyway, book ends with a cliffhanger of gigantic proportions. Daughter of chief bad guy goes to visit head stooge to leave a message. It is believed that this meeting is a setup. Message is short and mysterious.
I bought this book and book #3 before I finished the first book. I was traveling for work so I knew I'd have some time while flying and after the daily meetings. Now I have 150+ books that I have downloaded but not read, so I didn't need to buy more books, but I was hooked on the series and wanted to ensure I didn't end up "jonesing" for a book I couldn't download. I was only partially successful. I did read all 3 of these in 3-4 days, but there is a 4th book that isn't out yet..... OHHHH the agony..... Come on Rachel, get out of that cockpit and start writing. LOL Actually she has 4 books coming out this year. A new series "Colliding Worlds" is being released at the end of the month. I was fortunate enough to get an advance copy of that book and her writing is better in that series than in this one. Note, that isn't a knock on this one, just saying that one is even better.
So mini spoiler here, stop reading if spoilers bother you. Rachel starts killing off some of my favorite characters... Yep, not everyone survives... No fairy tale ending here.

So just go out and buy the books, they are definitely worth the money.
